As a result of the heavy rains tho streets in the south-eastern part of the city and through the suburbs of Woolscon and Opawa nre covered with water and slush inches deep.

Application waa made to tho Licensing Committee to day, under section 53 of the Licensing Act, 1904, to allow a licensee, a Jew, to close the bar of his hotel on certain Jewish holy days. Tho Chairman paid he could not advise the committee to grant permission to closo tho hotel altogether on days specified, for tho licensee might turn out all his boarders.
