Noumea., "Yesterday.
Particulars of the expedition 10 Mali' colo show the matter to be more im portant- than as firet reported.
The natives stockaded tho village as if in preparation for an attack.
Tho expedition therefore had to scale 900 feet of cliff track, an almost impoa sible task. The natives fired three volleys at the in, the bullets dropping amongst the sailors. None, however, were hit.
As the force advanced and cleared the bash with shots from the maxim, the natives retired to tho interior. Their villages and plantations were then destroyed.
A noticeable feature is that the cordial relations between French and English sailors is considered to have a salutatory effect on the natives, and also that it will strengthen friendly feelings between French and English settlers
Tho Pegasus has arrived with eight native prisoners.
