Tho New Z^a'and jockey Hewitt was in great form in the saddle on the second day of the A.J.C. meeting. He had the mount on three winners—namely, Machine Gun, Nightfall, and Sungod. Carruthers was tho rider of tbe winner (Isolt) of the other fiat race on the day's programme, and Jones rode Maniapoto. Nightfall's starting price in the Squatter's Handicap was 5 to 4. , Machine Gun's weight in the Shorts Handicap, which ho won, was 10.13 Lord Brocltleigh camo next with 9.8.
