A Novel Entertainment
Potato Crop.
(Own Correspondent.) Feilding, Last Night. The entertainment in aid of the Manchester Band, held on the Feilding Bacecourse to-day, was a great sucoess. The chief source of amusement, a living game of chess, met with general appreciation. The players were:—White king, Mr Mackerras; queen, Miss Sandilands; bishops, Messrs Wedde and Strainers'; knights, Messrs Sandilands and Prior; castles, Misses Dale and Mahon; black king, Mr Campbellqueen, Miss Lethbridge ; bishops, Messrs Short and Butler - T knights, Messrs Jackson and Sears ; castles, Misses Roe and Mahon; pawns consisted of school children.
The yield of the potato crop in the district this season far surpasses that of last year. The tubers, however, are not up to to the usual standard.
The Fresh Food and Ice Company's creameries at Aorangi and Colyton are receiving about 700 gallons daily. The lowest test is 3'B, average 4.
