Wanganui Training Notes.

(From the Herald.)

Light showers fell early yesterday morning, but did not affect the tracks, which presented a fairly busy appearance, though nothing of particular note was done. Operations were commenced by MrE. Cutts —who arrived on Saturday afternoon with Sir George Clifford's trio, viz., Treadmill, Windwhistle, and Quarryman.. The former, who was very flighty and all of a lather at the start, was sent once round, five furlongs of which he cut out in lmin ssec, going very well by himself. St. Evangeline and Seagull were associated in a six furlong spin, which occupied lmin 23sec. The latter is.a chestnut filly by St. Leger—Gannet, and was nominated for the New Zealand Cup, but did not accept. Hinekoa, looking very well, did a circle on the plough and then a round on the grass. Sympathy, unaccompanied, did a merry five furlongs, which the daughter of Stepniak left behind in 65sec. Quarryman and Windwhistle covered a mile together in lmin 48sec nicely. The mare looks particularly well, and will take some beating in the Spring Handicap. Shrapnel was allotted a couple of rounds at a medium pace, Matuku did useful work by herself, and Ringman went two rounds very strongly. Glory ran a fast five furlongs on her own account, and Opaeae covered four furlongs in'sl£sec in talcing style. Amongst others to work were Roseal, Tom Flynn, Waireka, Prospector,' Firelight, Lass-o'-Gowrie, Forest, Contingent, and Perfection. The two lastnamed are apparently all the better for their racing at Rangitikei, and Perfection may be expected to run prominently in the King Edward Handicap at the Hawke's Bay meeting. Sea Lion, Rawiri, Hamua, and Position will probably arrive to-night from' Porirua. The former, who is a full brother to Achilles, is engaged in the Guineas, in which he will have to meet Sir George Clifford's pair—Treadmill and Quarryman.. Sea Lion's performances so far do not suggest that he is anything like as.good as his brother, otherwise the race would be looked forward to with great interest. It is quite possible, thoughj-that the Porirua representative has improyed^and may keep tho Christchurch pair.very busy. : Black Reynard and Anchorite1 are both reported very • well, and there are more unlikely things than that the former will create a surprise in the Flying. Hinetaura, Pushful, Otaio, and Gold Seal arrived by train yesterday morning to fulfil their engagements at the Wanganui J.C. Meeting.

" Turf " in the Rangitikei Advocate : The progeny of Handsome Jack at the Rangitikei Meeting were a credit to Mr, W. F. Mcßcth's sire. Roseal (by Handsome Jack—Rosalind), the winner of the Maiden Hack, is a fine looking horse, and galloping is evidently his forte, for he strode along nicely in front of his field, -winning easily, and the time taken was only 3-sths of a secona slower than, that registered in the Open Flying. Roseal is nominated for the New Zealand ,Cup, and, it is' rumoured,, was backeU to v. iv v. good atake after his win at ißulls. Beau Ideal,' by Handsome Jack—Pandora, was turned out in splendid fettle by T. Scott, and was the best hurdler seen out at Bulls on performances. .

Mr J. Paul's Perfection and Contingent were the most consistent pair at the meeting, and each gallop improved their condition. Contingent ran third in the Maiden and second in the Hack Flying on the first day, and ran second to Begulation in the Open Telegraph Handicap on the second day. Perfection won the Spring and September Handicaps, and on her running must have a look-ih in the King Edward Handicap at Hawke's Bay on the 7th. Both are by The Workman,-whose stock are gaining renown as stayers and con. sistcnt performers.

Enquiries were made for Mr J. Green's Otaio, after his splendid performance of running second to Perfection in the Spring Handicap, and I am informed that H. Hickey has purchased the Haere —Strayshot gelding with his Wanganui engagement. The price is not stated. The Ganger has changed hands for -ESO, and is now in Mr A. Eichdale's possession.
