A conference of representatives of co-operative societies and trade unionists of Wales and Monmouthshire, held at Cardiff, representing a membership of 138,000, resolved that Mr Chamberlain's proposals would be a burden- to the workers, hamper industry, create capitalistic monopolies, and cause international and colonial discord.
A conference of the South and East England Federation of Trade Councils held at Oxford resolved that any departure from Freetrade would be detrimental to the workers' best interests.
