The Foxton Fire.
We deeply sympathise with our Foxton neighbours in the misfortune which has befallen them. Practically one-half of the business.portion of the town has been wiped out, and though many of the people were able to salvage their goods the individual losses will naturally be in cases severe. We think we can speak on behalf of the Palmerston community and say that if there is anything that can be done at this, end to help those at Foxton to temporarily tide ove? their misfortunes, such help will be gladly forthcoming. There is some consolation in the contemplation that this fire, like many earthly visitations seemingly awful at the time, may prove a blessing in disguise. Foxton is a prosperous place and a growing place. With improved port and railway facilities it will in time become a very important place. If, in rebuilding, the owners build with a sanguine eye to the future, it will not be long before Foxton presents a very much more attractive and imposing appearance to.visitors than it has been apt to do in the past. It might or might not be advisable fjo take this opportunity of widening the main street. This, of oourse, is a matter of purely local policy.
