THE BARQUE GLADYS. Press Association. Gr_*SoRNJS, Monday. The prehminaiT enquiry into "the stranding of the barque Gladys Avas held before Mr HaAvley, Collector of Customs, this morning. The evidence of the captoin and mate was taken, also fhe sailmaker, who was at the Avheel at the time of the occurrence. The veseel will be detained, pending the result of a survey by a diver. She was pumped dry yesterday afternbon in threequarters of an hour, oad Captain Foote states she is making very little Avater. DUNTRfpON ABLAZE. Oamaru, Monday. A fire at 2 o'clock yesterday morning destroyed Jacob Lundon's store, and Pocklington's boot shop, in Duntroon. Raven, saddler, lost all his saddler's tools, not insured. Lundon was insured, stock and building for .3125, Pocklington £100, both South British. With great difficulty Marrist's chemist shop, Rayne's store and the National Bank were prevented from catching. A strong wind was bloAving. GAIRLOCH ENQUIRY JUDGMENT. Auckland, Monday. The Nautical Court into the wreck of the Gairloch has given judgment. It stated the Gairloch had no patent log out, and the master trusted to his experience in estimating speed. The master committed an error of judgment in hugging the land so closely on a dark night. It Avas ordered that the certificate of Captain Austin be suspended for three months, and he pay J2lO toAvards the cost of the enquiry.
