LONDON PRODUCE RATES.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable message from the Agent-General, dated 'January 31st :—
Trade for all classes of mutton has been very slow, and prices have been barely maintained. The lamb market is firm, but stocks of new season's lamb on hand are light. The average price to-day of New Zealand lamb of brands other than Canterbury is 6bd, Australian sbd. The beef market is weak, and there is scarcely and demand for frozen beef.
To-day's price of butter is 101s per cwt, Danish being Ills, Argentine 101s, Canadian 975, and Siberian 955. There are signs of improvement in the price of New Zealand butter, and there is a good demand for cheese, New Zealand being quoted at 63s per cwt.
The hemp market is dull, but prices are good. Fan- Wellington grade, on the spot, is worth £32 10s per ton, and January and March shipments £29 10s. The price of Manilla hemp for fan- current grade, on spot, is £35 per ton.
There is no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market.
