Tho Arbi:ration Court :o-d iy gavo its decision in the carpenters1 di3pi.t?, fixing the minimum wnge at Is 4d per hour fcr[the city of Wellington, and within the 25 mi!e3 radius ot Wellington Post Office ; Is 3£d for Wanginui, and Is 3d for rest of dis'rict. The Court had been asked to make a uniform < minimum wage throughout the district, but it considered that the many differences in the conditions in country districts rrudercd this inadvisable. Regarding the provision for the workers unable to earn tho minimum wage, the Union hud asked the Court to limit this to tboss unable through age or sickness or accident to earn such wage. This the Court couid not gtant tinder the provisions of the Ac 1. The hours of labour were fixed an 45 a week for Wellington, and in the country same as at present ob-erved in places affected by the award, but cot to exceed 48 hours piecework. Subletting ia prohibited. The award ia tho country is to date from the 31st inst. to Ist January, 1905.
