Three scratchings have been innde for the Wellington na?eung —Achilles in the Zealandh Plate, Scarshoot in tha Wellington Piate, acd I'dlhs in the Telegraph Handicap. Owing to the sensational gallop made by Advance at the Hutt ou Tuesday morning, the Poriraa crack has become a strong favourite for the Wellington Cup. Hinetaura and Motor are said to be in excellent condition, aud Advance will have to expend himself to win. The annual meeting of iho Poxton liicing Club is always an cr.j )y----able fixture, and judging by the excellent acceptances, the forward state of ihe arrangements and tho promise ot fine weather the umet'ir.g which commences to-day should prove as successful as any which have prectdtd it. There are sixty-bight horses engaged in (he six races, and the fine field of fifteen will faco tho starter in the Cup. The following horsts should account ior the events: Flying Hack, Opasae; Ft.'xcon Cup, Convoy ; Hack Hurd.es, Moleskin ; Stewards' Hack, Lifebelt ; Summer Handicap, Mongonui; Welter Hack, Dick Turpin. The special train for Foxton will leave Palmerston this morcing fit 9.55 a m , arriving at Foxton at 11.80 a.m. Returning the train will leave Foxton at 5.50 p.m. By the above special tram la for entry to the course will be added* ; '.o all fares.
