KEROSENE.

_ As a result of increased competition among rival oil companies in the Australian market, the price of kerosene to the consumer has recently had an appreciable drop. Extensive consignments of oil continue to arrive, and in this connection the magnitude of the shipment which reached Melbourne on August 18th in the steamer Knight Errant is especially striking. Hitherto from 80,000 to 35,000 cases of oil have represented a large shipment, but this is vastly exceeded by that of the Knight Errant, whose shipment comprises the enormous total of 213,198 cases of American oil, Of these, 113,198 oases are for Melbourne and the balance, 100,000 cases for Sydney.
