Major Thrown, Civil Commissioner, has been holding a meeting' with the Ngaraura at Waitotara during the last week, for the purpose of coming to some settlement with Tapa Te Whata and his hapu, whose land claims were the.sub- ' ject of enquiry during last session. After much discussion the whole question was settled with Tapa and other claimants on the basis of the-^proposal submitted by their solicitor, " Dr- Buller, and were assented to by Major Kemp on their behalf. It is believed the settlement of this question will facilitate Major Browne's negotiations for' the confiscated land.
