CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — When untrue statements appear m your correspondence columns, I presume it is the duty of anyone to challenge them. In your last issue there appeared a letter from " Foul Play," m answer to one from "Fair Play." Mr " Foul Play" states for public information that our County Chairman has been appointed valuator for the County, and further, that he has the same appointment under the Manawatu Highways Board at an annual salary of £90. He also quotes a certain clause from tho Rating Act for the purpose of enlightening your readers. Will he kindly say ioheii or how the County appointment took place, likewise, that of the Highway Board ? If not satisfactorily explained, the public may well look upon his letter as an attempt at foul play. — I am, &c, Fair Play. Manawatu, Feb. 27th, 1877.
