BOWLING

CHRISTMAS FOURS TOURNEY

The Manawatu Bowling Centre's Christmas fours tournament was continued yesterday afternoon in fine weather. The greens were heavy for this period of the year, but were in i sligthly better condition than during the morning. ■'.'■' A gusty wind, which carried a chill with it, did not make for pleasant conditions today. There was little life in the greens and an overcast sky carried a threat of rain, some falling at noon. Fortunes changed late in the game between A. K. Drew and J. Davidson in the third round on the Northern green today. On the 14th head Drew led 18-11, 'but Davidson then scored on successive heads to lead 24-18 at I the 21st head. Drew scored on the | next three heads, but this brought his score to 22, not sufficient to overtake Davidson, who took a single on the last head to win 25-22. E. Smith and D. Lovelock were equal at 16-16 on the 18th head. On the 19th, Smith gained a single but Lovelock then enjoved a, run of 1,2, and 4, to lead 23-17. Each scored a 2 and on the final head. Smitu took a 3, the game ending thus at 25-22 in Lovelock's favour. Gordon and Arnott, each with two wins*, had a hard- tussle in the third j round, Gordon "winning 23-15 after : ' scoring on five successive heads. On I the 17th the scores were equal, 13-13, ' and on the 18th Arnott added a single. j Gordon then scored 1,3, 1,1, and I 3 on the next five heads to lead 22-14. Arnott won the next with a single, hut Gordon took a single on the 25th, thus taking the game, 23-15. Results of play:— A SECTION., ;: At Hokowhitu. Second Round. —Lovelock (Manawatu) 24 "v.
