EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD" - DECEMBER 28, 1915. According to advice received from Constantinople Allied airmen had bombed a munition factory in the town of Haskeut. A great fire had started and this had been followed by terrific explosions which had destroyed half the town. There were many thousands of victims. The Auckland Cup had been won bv Balboa (J. O'Shca) with Blackall (Emerson) second and Snub (Clarke) third. Tcte-a-tcto had won the Railway Handicap from Chakwana, with Hyginas third. A message from Athens stated that the Germans were contemplating giving up their drive on Salonika in favour of concentrating on an attack on Egypt. The 10th Palmerston North Stakes, of £SOO, 6ix furlongs, had been won by Mr G. D. Greenwood's Emperador (Hatch) with Messrs Buick and Son's Rangitero (Bell) second and Mr.F. Hall's Hythread (H. Young) third.
