HAS NOW CEASED

JEWISH IMMIGRATION

(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 26 Jewish immigration to Palestine has now ceased despite the statement of the British Foreign Secretary (Mr Bevin) that restricted immigration would continue, says the Associated Pre«s correspondent in Jerusalem, quoting a spokesman of the Jewish agency.

The spokesman said that immigration certificates are now held bv 840 people throughout the world and the 200 -usually held in reserve by the Palestine Migration Department are almost exhausted. Because no instructions have been received from the British Government, he .said, immigration has automatically stopped. This was due to the British Government deferring to the AiaD leaders. Even Mr Bevin's dismal promise that 1500 Jews would be allowed to immigrate monthly pending the of "the Palestine Commission Inquiry had been broken. During December only 200 immigrants had arrived.
