MEMORIAL TO EXPLORERS

LONDON, Dec. 4. The memory of those explorers of Australia who came from or had connections with the famous parish of St. Botolph?s Church, Boston, Lincolnshire, were honoured when Mr J. S. Duncan,- Australia's acting-High Commissioner • unveiled on December 13 a memorial tablet in the church—the famous "Boston Stump." Among those who came, from the parish and whose names were* engraved on the tablet are Bass and Matthew Flinders; Sir Joseph. Banks, James Roberts, and Peter Biscoe (these three sailed in the Endeavour); Joseph Gilbert, the astronomer, and Robert Rollett (who sailed on Captain Cook's second expedition); Robert Tower and Samual Flinders (of H.M.S. Investigator) ■ and Sir John Franklin, also of the 'investigator, whose parents were married in the church. • The Arms of the Commonwealth or Australia are emblazoned at the head of the tablet.
