VOCAL ART SOCIETY

At the invitation of the Hawke’s Bay Art Society, members of the Palmerston North Vocal Art Society visited Napier recently to present a programme. Of their performance the Daily Telegraph says: “Napier was afforded a musical treat when the AWcal Art Society of Palmerston North, under the baton of Mr John Emmett, sang to a packed house. Consisting of 30 singers, the choir was a sheer delight, fresh voices rising m thrilling volume and falling to soft piano effects almost as one voice. Attack was clean and meticulous detail was given to every call of the baton and each work rounded off with care and precision. . ,

Altogether, it was an evening to remember for artistic, shaded singing and Mr Emmett has every reason to he proud of his small band of enthusiasts. Special mention could be made of the last number, 'Now X O’er Moss and Fell’ - which brought spontaneous calls for an encore. The soloists were particularly pleasing. Mr AV. Thompson and Miss M. Penketh each having delightful voices and presenting their songs with sincerity of feeling and artistry. Miss M. Anderson, the solo pianist, received well-deserved encores for her work at the keyboard. Her touch was delicate and her technique excellent. Accompaniments were in the capable hands of Miss E. Eyre.”
