FEILDING

Mr W. H. Henson presided at a meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association on Friday. Mr W. J. MacLeod, a new committeeman who recently returned from overseas, was welcomed by the chairman. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr W. C. Small and Mr Basil Thompson, who had been strong supporters of the Show, were passed. The Manawatu-Oroua Division of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs was granted a • donation of 6 guineas. A letter from the division stated that 922 calves had been entered in the competition this year. Massey Agricultural College advised that a demonstration of modern wool-testing methods would be given at the Show in February. A further letter from the college stated that the principal members of the staff and students would be attending the Meat Board’s district lamb competition. Use of the buildings for a veterinary week to be held in May was granted the Fcilding branch of Federated Farmers. Judges appointed wore:—Messrs T. V. Morrin, Hastings, (pony classes), A. K. A lengthy list of donations from firms and others was read, and the chairman remarked that the support augured well for the success of the show. As to the Feilding group district lamb competition it was stated that the total entries were 51 which, in view of the backward spring, could be regarded as highly satisfactory. It was decided to invite the following official guests to the show :—Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Newall, the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser), the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Roberts), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland), Mr M. H. Oram, M.P., the High Commissioners for the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada and the United States Minister.
