INTERNEES ATTACKED

A dangerous situation exists at the internees’ camp at Ambarawa, 18 miles from Semarang, where a battalion of Gurkhas after a forced march from Semarang is trying to protect 10,000 evacuees from the Indonesians. The attackers concentrated mortar fire against the camp which is on fire, A column of Allied reinforcements with tanks is trying to reach Ambarawa. A British communique states that it is impossible to make a close search for arms at Semarang because of the shortage of troops, but the town _ is now quiet. British troops killed nine of 31 Indonesians who were stopped at a road block in Batavia.
