FEILDING CATTLE FAIR
LARGE YARDING. Male station store cattle comprised the yarding for tho cattle fair in Feilding today, when some 1600 head of 2-yr P.A. and Hereford steers and 4-yr P.A. and Hereford bullocks" were penned. In the main the cattle were in good condition and with the prospects of warmer weather and a flush of grass their appearance merited attention. Up till now the weather has not been favourable for the growth of pastures, anc\. in this district the grass has not got away well. A sudden cold snap during the past week checked growth somewhat, but in October*there should be
a substantial improvement in the quantity of grass available. Polled Angus cattle predominated in numbers today; but the aggregato yarding did not come up to last year's total, possibly due to breeders having disposed of surpluses privately. However, tho yarding was a heavy one and there were cattle available to meet most requirements. Boners, dairy and fat cattle were yarded in light numbers, while store sheep were also moderately supplied. Wether hoggets occupied most of the pons and few ewes and lambs were in evidence. Ewe mutton was best supplied in tho fat sheep section, but there,_ too, the offering was a comparatively iight one. Prices up till 1 p.m. were: — Station cattle. —Bullocks, 50 on account Short and Sons, £ls ss; 41 on account A.
