ZONING ORDERS
MANY MORE ABOLISHED. (Press Assn) WELLINGTON, Sept. 27 ••ji.ll zoning arrangements relating to tlie retail collection and by motor services of bakers, butchers,'-'-' grocers, clothiers and dry-cleaners are abolished, but milk zoning is to be —■ continued," said the minister of Iransport (Mr O'Brien) today. He added that the Milk Delivery Regulations, 1945, now ' gazetted, revoke the Delivery Emergency Regulations, which authorised the zoning schemes, and provide that zoning ot milk deliveries is to be taken over and continued under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Marketing.
"My colleague, the Minister of Supply and Munitions, has arrangedthat retailers dealing in the commodities and services now freed from zoning will be allowed such additional increases in petrol as they can justify for the running of some reasonable collection and delivery services," said the Minister. "It is not possible at present to relax the tyre restrictions and any increased services must necessarily run in the meantime on exist- *-• ing tyres. - "The general effect of abolishing the zoning arrangements," concluded the Minister, "will be to lighten the great burden of 'fetching and carrying' which has been so patiently borne by the housewife and others during the war years, and to restore as far as possible to the consumer his traditional right of choice when making his purchases."
The secretary of the Manawatu Master Bakers' Association (Mr F. H._ Blatchford) states that the association is holding a meeting during the weekend to ascertain if _it is possible to reorganise deliveries iiv the near future. In the meantime, however, Palmerston North bakers will continue to operate wholesale deliveries in their respective zones.
