BRITISH CHILDREN’S ART
An exhibition of 200 pictures and draw ings by British children from three to 17 years ofc age will be officially opened at tbs Municipal Hall at '2.15 p.m. tomorrow by Cr T. P. Hart. All types of schools, from famous public schools like Eton and Charterhouse to elementary/ schools' in the East End of London, have contibutcd. Tho first of its kind to be organised by the British Council, the exhibition has already been to the United States, Canada and Aus tralia, and from Now Zealand is to go to South Africa. It was opened at Wellington in 1944 and during two weeks 5000 children and 2003 adults viewed the pictures.. Arrangements have been made for parties of 50 to 55 children in the charge of teachers to see the pictures at stated times. The British Council, first formed in 1934 at the instance of the. Foreign Office, is a .semi-official body, which aims make more widely known abroad tho life and thought of the British peoples, and to promote an interchange of knowledge and ideas with other peoples. Grants to overseas schools to enable them to equip themselves for that purpose and scholarships to mi dents to' enable them to undergo courses of education or of industrial training in the United Kingdom are two of the council’s activities.
