RIVER BOARD MEETS
FLOODING IN MOTJTOA. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board was held yesterday, Mr J. Chrystall presiding. There were also present Messrs J. B. Chrystall, R. J. Law, S. Mitchell, W. Jackson, W. H. Barrow, T. Saunders and S. Newth. The Manawatu Catchment Board forwarded a letter inquiring about the terms and conditions attached to the expenditure of £4OO on a £2 for £1 subsidy for banking on the Mangaore Stream, and it was decided to reply that the whole subject had been previously left in the hands of Mr Law. The Moutoa Drainage Board wrote with reference to leakages in the floodgates on the Main Drain. It was stated that the members of the Moutoa Drainage Board were very perturbed and apparently no immediate action was being taken by the River Board to have the matter rectified so as to prevent the constant inundation of the properties involved. Water _ poured through the gates at every high tide. The chairman said he was fully in sympathy with the Moutoa settlers, and it was decided to reply that a contractor was now attending to the realigning of the floodgates.
