INTER-ISLAND RUGBY MATCH

(Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 24. The attention of Rugby football followers throughout New Zealand will be focussed on Eden Park tomorrow afternoon when the 37th inter-Island match will be played. The record attendance for a Rugby game in Auckland was at the third test match against the Springboks in 1937 when a crowd of 55,926 watched play. The gate takings amounted to £9703. A crowd of 45,250 watched the Test match in Auckland against a British team in 1930. Changes have been made in both back teams for the match. In the North sido G. Delamoro and B. Couch arc not available owing to injuries. They have been replaced by D. Barehavd and R. Sorcnson, both of Auckland. This brings eight. Auriclandcrs into tho side, four forwards and four backs. Tho only alteration in 'the South team is the defection of J. Alexander, first five-eighths. M. L'. Grace. South captain, will fill tho role and the original centre three-quarter, R. E. Elvidge, will take tho second five-eighths position. P YV. King, of Canterbury, will bo- centre three-quarter. Although the North forwards average 9ilb heavier than tho South the latter are expected to make up the deficiency by solid packing. The North backs should get.'a good share of tho ball as E. H. Catley (YVaikato) has proved an expert, hooker. Five of the South Island forwaids and four in tho North Island pack stand 6ft or more. |
