According to old residents of Napier, the felling of bush on the East Coast in recent years has resulted in more wind and less rein being experienced in Hawke’s Bay. Many severe frosts were experienced this winter but the rainfall had been negligible, it was stated to a Manawatu visitor. A block of bush is at present being dealt with close to Napier and it is estimated that it will take seven years to fell all the timber in it, for it extends to thousands of acres. As the trees are felled young trees are planted.
