MAKINO
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thu July meeting of the Women’s Institute was held with Mrs D. Reid presiding. The motto was given by Mrs Thomas. It was decided to hold a dance and card evening. Members stood for a minute in silence out of sympathy with Mrs 1 . Simpson, whoso mother died recently, the programme for August is: Motto Mis Barber; talk, Mrs Fenton; roh-call, an easy wash-day dinner; competitions, Iceland poppy and an apple tart in a plate •,short pastry with dripping); hostesses, Mesdatnos P. Simpson, J. Simpson and Thomas. At the invitation of Mrs Gosset this meeting is to he held at her home in Manchester Street, A penny competition was won l>y Mrs Huddleston. A talk _on interior decorating was given by Mrs Cosset, who also showed many examples ot what cou’.d be done with odd pieces ol china and materials. The poppy competition was won by Mrs A. Wilton 1, Mrs Blackler 2, Mrs Huddleston 3. A roll-call, a soup hint, brought forth many useful suggestions. Mosdames Mabey, J. Simpson, \. Reid and Ileavns wore the recipients ot birthday greetings. A competition which had been conducted in aid of soldiers’ parcels brought in nearly £9. A dance and card evening was held at which music was supplied by M r I'M win and an extra by Miss Bissett. Mr R. llills was M C The Monte Carlo was won by Miss N. Lang and Mr G. Pilcher The prizes for cards wore donated by Mrs J ■ Clarke and Mr J. Whitehead and were won by the following: Mrs Hope 1, Mrs Small sealed; Mr F. Shnldcrs 1, Master G. Pearson sealed; men’s aggregate, Mr i l . Callahan. . , , . Mrs J. Laing. accompanied by her throe sons, Messrs J., C. and G. Laing, hap been on holiday at New Plymouth and Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Hope of Master!on, are visiting their daughter, Mrs 1. W lute, and Mr White. Mr T. Shaldors was a recent visitor to Wellington. Mr D. Thompson has returned from a short visit to Rangiwahia, and Mr Boshicr has now returned to Rangiwahia after visiting his daughter, Mrs D. Thompson. Mrs Garlick, of l'oild-i-ng has been visiting her sister, Mrs A. Humphrey. L.A.C. M. D. Ilislop and Mrs Ilislop wore recent visitors to Mi' and mis R. M. Hislop. Mr R. M. Ilislop is now on holiday with friends at Auckland.
