SKIRMISHES IN BURMA
(Itec. 10.10 a.m.) COLOMBO, July 5. The Japanese have launched a Mines of small-scale attacks on our positions in an area of the bend of the Sitt;ni££ River, 25 miles east-north-east ot Pegu, says a South-East Asia Command communique. Fighting is continuing. Tho Japanese, who crossed the Pcgu-Sittang canal 26 miles north-east of Pegu village, have reached Leeinzu, where fighting is in progress. Thunderbolts yesterday gave support to the ground forces south of Myit.ko (north-east of Pegu) and north-west of Kvaukki (south-east of P.yu) Spitfires sank or damaged 18 river craft on the Sittang River. On luesdny Spitfires sank three river crait and damaged seven on the Sittang.
