EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD." MAY 9, .1915.

The most important news today war= the sinking of the giant Cunard hncr Lusitania oc Kinsalc, Southern Ireland. She was torpedoed and sank in 21 minutes. The Lusitania carried 1313 passengers and 665 of a crew. Large numbers had been landed at Clonakilty. The incident occurred at 2.30 p.m. According to a Paris ''message the German offensive on ihe Western Front during tho past fortnight had been completely broken. In attempting to take many, important positions the Germans lost 35,000 men.

Germany claimed great victories in Western Galicia over the Russians, but these were denied by Russia. Nothing further was known of the battles in this sector.
