VALEDICTORY
A pleasing little function took place in the Chief Post Office at Palmerston North to mark tho retirement on superannuation of Mr W. K. Coleman, senior supervisor, postal branch. Valedictory speeches which stressed particularly the happy co-operation which Air Coleman invariably extended to other branches of the Post Office were made by other branch controlling officers, and members of his staff paid a tribute to Air Coleman’s unfailing courtesy and interest, in their training and welfare. A presentation from Mr Coleman’s fellow officers was made by tho Chief Postmaster' (Air E. J. Smith), who referred to the retiring officer’s long period of service, the hitter years of which covered a difficult war period, and the marked ability with which Air Coleman had met the many emergencies which had arisen. Air Smith referred also to tho efficiency attained by tho temporary female officers as a result of Air Coleman’s training and he expressed regret that the time had arrived to bid Air Coleman an official farewell. Mr Coleman, in reply, spoke of the very line spirit shown by officers under his control in meeting tho difficult conditions that had arisen from time to time, and ho, too, paid a tribute to the work of the female officers under his control. He expressed regret at leaving tV> department, in which he had made many firm friends. Air Coleman joined the department at New Plymouth and after serving at that office until 1924 he was transferred to Gisborne.
