By a magnificent, charge they had reached their objectives. The Allied casualties wore heavy. Japan had delivered her famous ultimatum of 21 demands to China, slated a New York message. From Petrograd came the message that the fighting in the Carpathians was -i-liil desperate. Despite the fact that the Germans had brought up large reinforcements they were unable to make any impression on flic Russian lines.New Zealand’s war casualties to date totalled over 500. Ten officers and eight men had' been killed in action or died of wounds and 22 officers and 4)0 men had been wounded.
