RELEASED WAR PRISONERS

FIRST BATCH RUSSIA.

(Roc. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Feb 22. It is officially announced that. 2bUU British Empire' prisoners of war released in the Bed Arni3 r advance have arrived in Russia and are being sent to a camp in the Crimea, where every provision is being made for their comfort until it is possible to make arrangements for their repatriation. The statement added that this is only the first batch oi released men and other contingents are expected to follow at intervals. The British Government states that the names of the liberated men will be released as soon as they come to hand. An Official AVireless message says information has been received from the Soviet authorities that 2661 British Commonwealth prisoners of war, of whom 70 are officers, have been recovered from German camps and are on their way by rail to Odessa. Mr Arthur Henderson (Under-Secretary for War) announcing this in the House of Commons, said a transit camp was under construction at Odessa for the accommodation of liberated prisoners until they could be shipped home. In accordance with the agreement recently concluded in the Crimea Conference, the Russians are providing food and clothes and any'necessary medical attention.
