JUNIOR CHAMBER
Mr C. E. Taylor presided over a large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Junior Chamber of Commerce. Reference was made to the loss sustained by Air and Mrs D. Yates in the death of their infant daughter. A motion of sympathy was carried, members standing in silence. Ibe president extended a welcome to several visitors and Messrs L. Kobcrstcin and L. B. Parlane were elected members. A debate was held on a notice of motion tabled by Mr McKechnic regarding the convening of a public meeting with a view to discussing the possibilities of setting up a sports centre in Palmerston North. A special committee was appointed to interview the bodies concerned with a view to ascertaining their feelings on the matter and the possibility of holding such a meeting. . The final report covering the publication of the Milson booklet was submitted and numerous letters from various parts of the Dominion complimenting the Junior Chamber on its enterprise were received. Among the correspondence was a letter kom the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce offering full support to Palmerston North’s claim for Milson airport as the trans-Tasman air terminal. . . Mr N. Cook, on behalf of the social committee, submitted a report .outlining the prospective activities for the forthcoming year, which include the holding ot monthly luncheons at which a guest speaker would be present. The president and Mr Tattersficld jointly submitted a report on the activities of the comniittoc set up for formulating a scheme for business executive training. The proposals include a complete series of monthly lectures open to the public, these lectures to cover various phases of commerce and to lie delivered by recognised authorities from various parts of New Zealand. Iho scheme also includes a series of classes open to members of the Junior Ghambc only, for the purpose of teaching public speaking, debating', and chairmanship ot meetings. • Following a request from the senior ebamber to investigate the inadequacy o the present bus service to Milson, it decided to set up a committee to Ming down a report in conjunction with the city bus tirnctale, for consideration at the next meeting. ? A recommendation was passed to the visorv council to tako the necessary step? to collect all possible Information on the subject of profit sharing, business systems, and industry.
