RECORD BOMBING IN 1944 R.AJBVS STAGGERING TOTAL (N.Z. Press Association.—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 4. R.A.F. bombers set a staggering record in 1944 in their campaign against German industry which has contributed so greatly to the enemy's present plight. During the year more than 525,000 tons of bombs, more than twice the weight dropped in the first four and a quarter years of the war, were dropped on Germany. Thirty five per cent. ,of these were on industrial towns, 18'per cent, on transport, 16 per cent, in- direct support of the Allied armies, 11 per cent, o.i V-weapon sites and supply depots,, seven per cent, on the German oil industry, three per cent, on oil storage depots, four per cent, on the German aircraft industry, three per cent, on ports and shipping and three per cent, on unspecified targets.— Official Wireless.
