OHAKEA

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The Ohakea Patriotic Committee held its fourth annual meeting on Thursday, there being a full attendance of the committee and one other resident. Mr 11. B. Redpath presided and presented the report which stated that 95 soldiers' parcels had been forwarded during the year in addition to the quarterly despatch of local parcels. Other activities had boon the farewell and welcome home of servicemen. Two functions had been hold to farewell boys going overseas and 11 men had been welcomed back. lie ©specially wished to thank the ladies who had undertaken the parcels work and the residents for their generous financial support. The financial statement showed a balance in the bank of £156 10s 2d. The secretary in his statement drew attention to the fact that over £9OO had been through the committee's books during the past years, all of this having been raised locally. The statement showed that the fund for returned servicemen was now in a healthy condition with a credit of £l5O. The mooting decided to recommend to the incoming committee that a grant of a small sum be made to any servicemen who were invited to local welcome homo functions but who were not local boys. The officers elected were:—President: Mr 11. B. Redpath (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr I. N. Leeb (re-elected); committee, Mesdames It Scott, N. Loet, G. McDonell, R. Sexton, Misses W. Bailey, M. Bailey, T. Masters. Messrs C. P. Vile, 11. Masters, R. Scott, R. Bailey, 11. Ellery, K. Vile. B. Henderson, D. Capstick, G. McDonell, and P. Ingram ; purchasing committee, Misses M. Bailey and T. Masters. Tributes were paid to the sterling work which had been done by the chairman and secretary over the past four and a-half years. The competition for the Christmas hamper was won by Mr N. Remnant. .At the committee meeting prior to the above meeting the resignation of Miss C Mills was received with regret and a vote of thanks accorded her for her services. Finality was reached in the matter of recognising the services given by men returning from overseas. Mr and Mrs 11. Ellery tendered a complimentary party to their daughter, Mrs R. Sexton, at their home, "Pencarrow." There were over 30 guests present to welcome home Mr and Mrs Sexton and to view their array of wedding presents. l A pleasant evening was spent in cards and competitions following which supper was served.
