LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Mrs S. J. Parkes, who presided at the ! April meeting of the Terrace End branch of the League of Mothers, welcomed visitors and those members who had been absent through illness. Sympathy was expressed with several members who were indisposed, to Mesdames Silson, sonr., and Evans, who were in hospital, and to Mrs Sebelin, whose son had been wounded. Pleasure was voiced that Mrs M. Lewis's daughter was well enough to leave hospital. Mrs Parkes, reporting on the conference and provincial meeting of the League of Mothers, which she had attended in Wellington, said that a promise had been given to the league that the quality of radio programmes would be improved, and that the Dominion president had urged 'the establishment of creches. A happy thought was given by Mrs F. Carmont. reference was made to a gift of books by Mrs G. Mills, and articles knitted for the patriotic shop by Mesdames E. Dymock and Silson. A short programme of entertainment included numbers by tho choir, conducted- by Mrs "M. Pearcc, Miss J. Budwell, and Miss M. Graham. Mrs R. Hay was the pianist. Mrs Parkes thanked the performers and presented each with a floral spray. Rev. P. Warren spoke on the message of the Resurrection as applied to the present day. Mrs Dymock thanked the speaker, performers and tea hostesses. The stage and tea-tables had boon decorated with flowers by Mesdames Devey and Silson.
