WELLINGTON MEETING.
The Wellington Cup meeting will open to-morrow and be concluded on the following Saturday, Anniversary Day. The great event to-morrow is the Wellington Cup -which has drawn a high class fiiold, including Kindergarten (wlitwo plans have yet to be announced), Lord Chancellor (winner of the Auckland Cup), Lou Rosa (third, Auckland Cup), Alethca' (Wairarapa Cup, equal dead heat second Manawatu Cup), Don Quex (third New Zealand-Cup, first Manawatu and Marton Cups), Classforin (New Zealand Cup), Palfrey (fourth New Zoaland Cup and first Dunedin Cup) and Merry May (second Auckland Cup). Other well performed horses in the field and a great contest is expected. The event, should Kindergarten not start, bears a most open appearance. The other events have also drawn excellent fields ■ and high class sport should be witnessed. Horses likely to be in demand may be: Trentham Highwcight.—To Awe Awe, Voltaire, Vivid Night. Wellington Stakes.—-Subdued, Nawab, Bridge Acre. Apprentices' Hack Plato.—Sal's Pal, Latin Bay, Vera Lynn. Fitzherbert Handicap.—Carthage, Pensacola, Thciolyn. Wellington Cup.—Kindergarten, Merry May bracket, Rink. Ruapehu Handicap.—Sunblaze, Sister Sal, Broifield. Telegraph Handicap.—Sweet Biscuit, Sir Bradbury, Skyliawk. ' Anniversary Handicap.—Scottish Dale, Corday, Te Kawiti. Additional scratchings announced yesterday are: —Wellington Stakes: Phaleron Sign, 2 pm. Telegraph Handicap: Silver Lily, 2.45 p.m. Trentham Highweight: Georgia, 4.20 p.m.
Silver Sox was pulled up shortly after the start of the James llazlctt Gold Cup and it was revealed that he had suffered a fractured fetlock joint and had to be destroyed. Silver Sox was a lour-year-old gelding by Salmagundi from Silver Sail and was owned by Mr A. 11. Aubrey, of Oaniaru, who raced Silver Streak throughout his career. Though he had moderate opposition, Master Dash outclassed the sprinters in the Wardoll Handicap at the Wairarapa meeting. It was the first winning run the brilliant Gynerium gelding had mado this season, and under 7.6 he should be difficult in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham, it was at Trentham that Master D; i h showed smart form as a two-year-old last season. Paifrey won the Dunedin Cup under 7.9, Macedoinc (8.8) being a good third, with Amorlad (8.6) beaten into fifth place. The weights of the two former in (he Weiangton Cup are Macedoinc 8.2, and Palfrey 7.8. Since their Wingatui meeting Macedoinc has won the Invercargill Cup.
