TO-DAY'S WORK AT TRENTHAM. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Jan 13. Conditions w-erc excellent at Trentham. this morning for gallops in preparation for the Wellington meeting. With tlic exception of the two-year-olds who sprinted on the course proper, all the fast work was undertaken on t.io plough. The Cup candidates Royal Mont, Lord Chancellor and Jeff were associated ill a mile task. Royal Merit led throughout, beating Lord Chancellor by a short length, with Jeff three lengths back, running the distance in 1.42 2-5' after covering the first half-mile in 50sec. Rink and Don Qnex took 51 3-ssee. for the first half-mile and 1.44 4-5 for the full distance, being together all He way Palfroy was clear of Piastre at the •nd of a mile run in 1.45, but they started well beyond Chat point. Kindergarten answered to a kick to draw clear of Lou Rosa at the end ol seven furlongs run in 1.29 1-5 after running the first three in 37 3-sscc. Ihe topwoight looks well and sojar as his trainer is aware he will take his place.o.. Saturday. On the other hand, Tara King is a very doubtful starter and was restricted to trotting this morning. Macedoine was impressive in a gallop with Good Scout, having the latter s measure all the way. They ran the first ?hree furlongs in 37 3-sscc, and seven in 1.29 1-5. Full Hand took 1.31 4-5 for the same distance and Cracroft 1.32 2-5 Glcnfalloch beat Greenfeast in i.au 2-5 in an attractive effort. Over six furlongs Foxola and Merry Mav kept together to complete the journey in 1.21, the first two furlongs taking 29sec. Lord Broiefort and a mate took the same time. Sister Sal and Sal s Pal were partners over six in 1.1/ <S3> the first two taking 27 2-ssec. The Telegraph Handicap candidates Beau Vaals and Sweet Biscuit slipped over five- furlongs in 1.2. Both arc in great order. Phaleron was a head in front of Foreign Coin at the end offiyc furlongs run in 1.3 2-5. Master Dash and Well Armed ran an easy half-mile in 55sec. . . On the course proper, where timing was not possible. Subdued was held backto be with Thcoilyn in a run over two furlongs Pensacola beat Sunstream, and Mine Host was clear of Aqua after getting the worst of the pick-up. Hndeo Acre was in front of Barrage, and Oolai* was a length in advance of Nawab and Golden Barb. Ilormuz beat Kelmont and Ann Bank was in front of lncio Litrlit. Scratching* to-day for Trentham were.: Kincrop and Haushty Queen for the Apprentices' Plate; Capronella antt Money Bird for the Ruapehu Handicap.
