EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD." SEPTEMBER 3, 1913. At the Marton Jockey Club's spring meeting, the Marton Handicap had been won by Otahu, with Lord Renown second, and Routine third. 'I wo tenement houses in Dublin had collapsed, thirteen families being buried. It was feared the death roll Mould be heavy ; 53 people were mising. The tenements, . which were old and dilapidated, were in tho oldest part of the city and inhabited by poor working people. , - The touring Australian Rugby team had surprisingly lost to Wanganui by 11 points to 6. \ The Australians had nlaved their strongest team—the fifteen chosen to play New Zealand in the first Test match at Wellington. Four high-powered racing,cars in a twenty-five miles, contest had collided at Nashville (Tencssccv. at a speed of sixty miles per hour. Four drivers were killed.
