WAR ANNIVERSARY

ENEMY'S ATTITUDE.

(Rec. 1.55 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 2. The Japanese spokesman Hori in a statement on the fourth year of the war is quoted by the Berlin radio as saying: "The longer the war lasts the more favourable will the situation become to our side. Our situation is unassailable strategically and economically. Time is our great ally because it enables us to transform into fighting strength our large resources and vast reserves of manpower." The German News Agency deputyPress chief Suendermann, in a statement on the anniversary of the outbreak of the war, said: "A phase of the war is now in sight when further sacrifices will have to be made. Germany is fighting confident of the security of her position." In marked contrast to the previous anniversaries . the German radio stations all day on Wednesday did not mention the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war. The talks were confined to informing the German people of the hard necessity of the retreat* in Russia and to bolstering 'morale again6t the Allied bombings.
