The Washington correspondent of the New York Daily News alleges that Mrs Harry Hopkins, whose • husband is 1 i l?resident S' special assistant for , lend-leasCi operations, received a lavish bridal ■ gift of a paraure of emeralds cost-, lier than diamonds from her bus-! band’s British counterpart, Lord Beaverbrook, who is at the receiv-; ing end of Lease-or-Lend.” I Continuing its insinuation, though not giving definite facts, the Daily News i says: “Beaverbrook was not a guest at j the wadding on August 1. lie was busy \ ■in London arranging for the receipt of billions of dollars of Lease-or-Lend funds, but sent the gift. It could not be learnt how it was sent, but it. is assumed that, because of its value, it was carried by military plane, or at the least by clipper, probably in the diplomatic bag.
