SCHOOL COMMITTEES
Mr C. Aitkcn presided at a meeting of tho College Street School Committee the headmaster reported that there was a roll number of 162. The playgrounds could not be used owing to the length of the grass, and thorp was a break m the fence near the clinic. It was resolved that the chairman endeavour to got a man to cut the grass, and tho fence is to be inspected by the visiting committee, Messrs Aitkcn and Garner being reappointed for this purpose. At a meeting of the Intermediate School Committee, at which Mr W. H. Brown presided, the principal (Mr J. C. Wliiblcy) reported that the pupils had been fortunate in hearing special c-ldresscs arranged for them by Mr J. S. Nieolson on “Life in Nigeria” and Mr L. J. Donaldson on Singapore. The pupils had conducted a copper trail in the playground for the benefit of the Crippled Children Society, the sum of £l3 15s 5d being collected; this was a direct contribution from the pupils, and the committee decided to convey its congratulations to them. Permission was granted for the building of two bins to hold tho sports gear which had been purchased with the assistance of the Parents’ Association.
