LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. The War Cabinet has approved of a recommendation from the Supply Council that Labour Day this year be observed as a holiday throughout industry generally, according to an announcement made by Messrs Sullivan and Webb, today. The Ministers stated that, after examining the matter from several angles, the War Cabinet had decided that, tho long week-end provided by Labour Day falling as it did on a Monday wou.d have a beneficial effect upon war production rather than detracting from it. Where workers are called upon to work on Labour Day they should, of course, be paid the appropriate holiday rates, the Ministers added.
