PERSECUTION OF JEWS

(Rec. 1.50 p.m.) liONDON, Sept. 28 Two members of Laval’s Cabinet (M. Barthelmy, Minister of Justice, and M. Rentier. Minister without portfolio) have threatened to resign if the persecution of the Jews continues, reports Reuter’s correspondent on the French frontier.

Many priests and members of religious orders are wearing the Star of David emblem as a protest against the persecutions. Gringoire and other collaborationist newspapers declare that there are 2,700,000 Jews in France who are swamping tho Mediterranean coast. Neutrals estimate that there could not be more than 400,000 Jews in France in 1941, and the exaggerated figure is obviously quoted with the object of stirring up the French anti-Semitism movement which so far is unsupported. The Berlin radio quotes a Vichy report that General Nogues, Gover-nor-General of Morocco, has established concentration camps for Jews.
