CONTROL OF MADAGASCAR
LONDON, Sept. 25. The greater part of Madagascar lias uoav been occupied by British troops. Tile G.O.C, in East Africa (General Sir William Platt) says that the island AA’ill be subject to military jurisdiction for the time being. The Official Wireless states that with the occupation of tho capital of Madagascar and the main ports, for tlie purpose of which military action Avas considered necessary and which has already been virtually achieved, the potential threat to vital Allied sea communications has been removed. Satisfaction therefore is expressed in London that, Avith this task accomplished, General Plait has hastened once again to make clear the motives Avhicli rendered tlio operation necessary and to reaffirm that French sovereignty Avill not ho impaired by it. It is also stated in London that such troops as are still under the orders of Vichy navo retired into the southern part of tho island.
