(Rec. 11.40) RUGBY, Sept. 25. The Home Secretary (Mr Morrison) announced that a closer liaison is to be established between the civil defence services and tile Home Guard. The latter will in future undertake stand-by duties as fire guards and in dthef ways as far as compatible with their military training and operational needs. Their new duties will be in addition to emorepey service after heavy raids. „ , ... It would be departmentalism run mad to suggest that because the Homo Guard wore a military uniform they must not he free to undertake urgent tasks of the defence of cities against fire, the Minister said.
