(Special Correspondent.) (1.25 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 23. "Wing-Commander L. C. Seavill, of Hamilton, lias been appointed commanding officer of the Sixth New Zealand Squadron in England. Jt is a training squadron in the Bomber Command. Wing-Commander Seaville recently held a position in Can : ada.
Squadron-Leader D. Carlson, D.F.C., of the Waiknto, shared with a Rhodesian sergeant-pilot his squadron's first victory when they shot down a Focke-Wulf 190. SquadronLeader Carlson said: "We were escorting Hurricane bombers attacking St. Omer when I spotted two enemy machines coming head on and slightly over us. The sergeant and I pulled up our noses and had a burst at the nearer one. I saw flames spurt from the cockpit engine. After that another pilot saw it spiral down in flames." Squadron-Leader Carlson's squadron took part in the Dieppe raid. He said: "We were unlucky in not seeing many. We did spot one Dornier 117 and nine of us fired at it, whereupon it crashed."
