Mr G. Murphy, of Parnell. Auckland, has been appointed on recall manager of the branch of the Bank of New Zealand at Bulls.

The death is reported from Wanganui of Mr Grcgor McGregor, aged 86, the noted authority on Maori affa.irs and founder of the Morikau Farm and small farm scheme for Maoris.

The Federal Premier (Mr Curtin) according to a Canberra cablegram, has announced the appointment of Sir Owen Dixon, a Justice of the High Court, as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary for' the Commonwealth of Australia to the United States, in succession to Mr P. G. Casey. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, who conducted a sectional congress gathering of the Salvation Army in Palmerston North during the week-end, returned to Wellington to-day. He was accompanied by Mrs Smith, also the Chief Secretary (Colonel W. Ebbs) and Mrs Ebbs, Lieut.-Colonel S. Smith, and Brigadier and Mrs C. Gray.

A rapid journey from Wellington to North Auckland was made by the Prime Minister (Mr Eraser) at the week-end, when he left Wellington by aeroplane on Friday, landed at a northern aerodrome the same afternoon, and addressed a meeting at Kaitaia in the evening. On Saturday he visited Kaikohe and Dargaville, and proceeded to Whangarei yesterday. He is returning to Wellington to-day. In St. Peter's Church, Wellington, yesterday morning, ,Mr A. F. C. Charles, of Palmerston North, was ordained deacon. He will become assistant curate in the parish in place of Rev. T. F. Fagg, who has lately been put in charge of Upper Hutt. The preacher was'Rev. F. S. Ramson, vicar of St. Peter's, Terrace End, Palmerston North, and the candidate was presented by the Archdeacon of Wellington, who is vicar of the parish. The ceremonv was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington (Rt. Rev. H. S. Holland), who was attended by, his chaplain, Rev. L. N. Watklns.
