BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr 'l'. L. Seddon) presiding. Also present were Crs \\. \V. Andrews, A. C. Buist, 1L Burne, P. B. Desmond, H. J. Dewe. P. G. Guy, C. 13. McClure, A. C. McCorkiudalc, and L. W. Penhey. In connection with the proposal to close Dublin Street, seven of the adjoining landowners .signified that they favour tho action to be taken. Upon receipt ol further information regarding receipts and expenditure and arrangements with the Rugby Union, the application of the Feilding Football Executive for a reduction in the rental charge lot the use of Johnston Park was considered by tlie council and it was decided to decline the request. A slight reduction in the rates payable by the Feilding Bowling Club in respect of certain sections owned by the club was made for the current year.'The finance committee recommended that the diamond jubilee of the borough be celebrated by a thanksgiving service at Kowhai Centennial Park next month. It was decided to invite members oi the Municipal Band Committee to attend the next meeting of the reserves committee to discuss proposals relative to the band rotunda in Manchester Square. Miss O. Sporle was appointed temporarily to the position of caretaker of the municipal baths, tlie u e of which has been granted to the Swimming Club tor the season.

Cr Dewe reported on the meetings of tlie waste materials committee, stating that a depot had been established and waste metals and paper were being handled in satisfactory quantities although the person in charge of the depot considers that much more material could be handled by him and his two assistants. Sales of flic material could be made locally at satisfactory prices a.nd the money credited direct to tlie local patriotic fund, Cr Guy. the town clerk (Mr C. H. ’late), and Mr Goodman were empowered to effect sales.

That to their knowledge no football matches had been played on Johnston Park on any Sunday was the submission of the Feilding football executive regarding a complaint lodged with Hie council.
